I paid a visit to Homestyle Hawaiian. It’s located on North side of Oceanside Blvd just east of Highway 5. While it is situated on the end of a strip mall across from a car wash, but once you are inside you get the vibe you are in Hawaii. Lots of Hawaiian pictures, surfboards, and tropical memorabilia. It seems to be very authentic representation of Hawaiian food not like some of the other places I have been too.
Carmine’s Pizza in Oceanside is located on Highway 101 just south of Mission Ave. Carmine’s setup is reminiscent of neighborhood pizzerias found in the northeast especially with Frank Sinatra playing on the radio. They have plenty of seating indoors and the small outdoor patio provides additional seating as well.
The Bagby Beer Company is both brewery and restaurant located right on the 101 in Oceanside. The building is a massive new construction that once was home to a car dealership. It is a multilevel, open space design with at least three bars, a tasting room and a restaurant. Bagby Beer Company was opened by a veteran brewer who appears to have spared no expense. I went one afternoon with a friend for lunch and we were both quite impressed with the menu and beer selection. They also serve cocktails.
Local Tap House & Kitchen is a gem in Oceanside. A favorite spot for locals that serves delicious food, local beers, and creative cocktails. They offer lunch, dinner and brunch on Sunday. Popular appetizers include Shrimp and Chorizo Egg Rolls, Calamari and Bacon Tacos, and WTF Short Rib Fries. They have salads that look delicious as they were constantly coming from the kitchen, that you can add fried or grilled Chicken, Shrimp, Salmon and Tuna. The most popular being the Pears, Poms & Persimmons that comes with Crusted fried Goat cheese and a burnt Orange vinaigrette.
Tin Fish has one of the best locations in Oceanside. It is almost literally on the beach, located at the base of the Oceanside Pier. There is no designated parking but there is street parking and a parking lot across the street.
Sunshine Poke & Sushi Rolls is a fast casual Mom and Pop restaurant on Highway 101 and Mission Ave. A great and affordable place to enjoy fresh Sushi Rolls and Poke without having to go to a sit down restaurant. Sunshine specializes in Poke bowls and Sushi rolls that are made with high quality fresh fish and ingredients.
Ty’s Burger House serves up burgers, sandwiches, fries, salads and cold beer. Walk right up to the counter to order. They give you a number and food is brought to your table by the friendly staff.
The San Diego Botanical Garden is one of those can’t miss locations. Be sure to wear some comfortable shoes along with plenty of sunblock. There is such a variety of beautiful plants to see that no matter what time of year you go something is sure to be in bloom.
